Posting from the air today...en route to the OC. First experience w/ inflight wifi & so-far-so-good! Makes time FLY by (can't resist the pun, sorry for my cheesiness), actually can't believe it took them this long to figure out how to do it.
So while I'm wireless @ 20,000 feet, I can PLAN ANOTHER TRIP WHILE I AM TRAVELING! The ridiculousness of this does not escape me, but I just can't resist. Hooked!
The road not (yet) traveled...

TEN years!!!
Ok now that the last post had me on a trip down memory lance circa 2000 Europe travels...I'm totally obsessed with getting back over the pond. ASAP. From now till 5pm, you'll find me on kayak. Let the productivity decline begin.
To backpack or not to backpack
I'm a BIG fan of backpacks for luggage. Don't get me wrong, a nice roller bag has some perks, but when it comes to any kind of travel where there are more than two modes of transportation involved, there's nothing better than just being able to throw a backpack on your shoulders and GO. I bought one when I went to Europe in 2000 (can't believe it's been 10 years since that trip...sigh) and still use it today, it's amazing and zips all the way around so you can get to everything just like a suitcase. Why do backpacks get a bad wrap once you pass age 22?? I've become a bit of a backpack pusher...but keep getting the same look of disgust as a response. I'm sorry, but there is nothing sophisticated about dragging a huge roller bag across old sidewalks and having it flop all over the place. C'mon, even in New York you see these fools attempting to cross the street with an uncooperative piece of luggage and you sympathize. Too cool for a backpack? You look like an idiot. And, no, you don't need dreads or birks to carry one.

Rapid Rewards Junkie
It seems fitting that I designate this, the first post on my blog, to my favorite travel rewards program, Southwest Rapid Rewards. Note: I do not work for Southwest.
This post is spurred by the excitement/panic that ensued when I checked my email this morning and saw a notification that Southwest extended their schedule to mid-March. THIS IS HUGE, people! Oh wait, this being my first blog post...no followers yet...but when I have some...you will totally get what I am saying here!! I was totally flustered because I was about 3 hours late to this news and knew it is only a matter of time before all the deals and award seats are sucked up by those crazy people who let their blackberries and iphones ring all night with email alerts so they can be the first to know about this sort of thing. Don't get me wrong, I've been one of those people before...don't think I didn't get up at 4am when Skybus and their $10 fare sales were going.
Anyway, I was frantic to book an RR Award flight to San Fran for MLK weekend (have a bachelorette party in Napa and I could seriously use the extra cash for my two other favorite pastimes, wine and food...), but, alas, I was outmaneuvered by those savvy blackberriers and early risers previously mentioned.
Set my Kayak alerts for SFO in Jan, fingers crossed for a sweet deal.
